The Scent
The opening is brighter than you remember — pine needles and black pepper cut through bergamot with a crystalline sharpness the original only hinted at. Incense and orris form the heart’s surprising center: moody, sophisticated, nearly liturgical. Then vanilla absolute and white suede soften everything into something closer to a whisper than a shout, with ambroxan adding that watery, transparent shimmer reminiscent of LV Météore.
The Collection + Performance
Launched in 2026 as part of Byredo’s Absolu Collection — richer, more concentrated reimaginings of the house’s icons — this 100ml extrait was composed by Jérôme Epinette, who threaded pine needles, black pepper, bergamot, incense, orris, carrot seeds, vanilla absolute, white suede, and ambroxan into a fragrance that lasts significantly longer than the EDP. Brand new in box, factory-sealed.
Who It’s For
Original Gypsy Water devotees who’ve outgrown effortless and crave something with more interiority. The incense-vanilla drydown reads heavier and more masculine than the EDP — rated 3.47 on Fragrantica for good reason. If you found the original too fleeting or too light, this may be your answer; if you loved its weightlessness, approach with curiosity.
Epinette’s moodier return to his own cult classic — same wanderer, different road.
