Why does a perfume house call itself “Butterfly”?
Because a butterfly never settles on just any flower — it instinctively finds the ones with the finest nectar. That instinct is the soul of Butterfly Thai Perfume.
Its founder and perfumer, Suchin “Chin” Kaew-Udon, grew up a shy boy in a Thai village, following his nose through rice fields, gardens and farmyards at dawn. He dreamed of becoming a perfumer at twelve, took the sensible detour into civil engineering, then found his way back through fashion design — crafting scents to match the clothes he made. One question kept pulling at him: what if you could bottle the Thailand you actually smell, not the one on the postcard?
Why Butterfly Thai Stands Apart
This is perfume built the old Thai way, finished with modern craft. Every composition begins in nam ob nam prung — Thailand’s centuries-old art of scenting — then is rebuilt with a perfumer’s precision from ingredients you can’t fake: agarwood and benzoin, galangal and kaffir lime, mango, jasmine garlands, herbs from the market.
And instead of a thin alcohol spray, the house works in its signature coconut-oil base — a rich, skin-loving formula that melts in and stays with you for hours.
There’s real heart behind the sourcing, too. Chin works directly with Thai farmers, even buying up their leftover pomelo peel, so every bottle quietly supports the countryside it smells of. Nothing here chases a global trend. It’s perfume made by a Thai, for everyone who fell in love with Thailand.
The Collections
Woody — resinous oud, benzoin and warm woods; the house signature (Agarwood & Benzoin).
Gourmands — sweet and edible, built on Thailand’s most famous dessert (Mango Sticky Rice).
Citrus — bright, juicy and sunlit (Pomelo).
Fruity — green-to-ripe tropical fruit, nostalgic and breezy (Mango Leaf).
Spice — Thai kitchen aromatics like galangal and basil (Galanga, Kali Girl).
Love Potion — folkloric magical herbs steeped in Thai romance (Wan Sao Long).
