Chasense (茶香师, “the master of tea fragrance”) does one thing: tea, interpreted one varietal at a time. If you are new to the house, these three are where most people land.
Spring Tea is the award-winner that made the brand’s name: Longjing green tea after rain, with tangerine peel and pear blossom, by Florian Gallo. Fresh, misty, quietly addictive.
Comforting Oolong is the highest-rated Chasense we carry and, at $74, the best place to start: peach-sweet Tieguanyin oolong, warm and polished, the definitive tea gourmand.
Jasmine Green Tea is the most photorealistic jasmine tea in the line: bergamot, pear and fresh jasmine blossom over green tea. If you drink jasmine tea, this will stop you.

The lines and what they cost
Origin of Tea is the entry line: four 50 ml bottles at $74 (Comforting Oolong, Confidence Black Tea, Nature Green Tea, Find Myself). Flower Tea pairs a tea with a Chinese flower in 30 ml bottles at $94 (Jasmine Green Tea, Osmanthus Oolong, Orchid Guanyin, Wintersweet). World Tea and China Tea are the 50 ml interpretations of specific teas at $139 (Matcha, Tieguanyin, Russian Caravan, Milk Tea, Darjeeling, Biluochun, Broken Silver, Silver Needle). ZenTea, at $124, is the newest line, with each scent signed by a named perfumer: Florian Gallo (Ya), Nathalie Lorson (Qing), Frank Voelkl (Harmony), Alex Lee (Zheng).
Who makes them
Chasense briefs the same perfumers as the big European houses: Florian Gallo and Nathalie Lorson (Firmenich), Frank Voelkl (the nose behind Le Labo Santal 33), Hamid Merati-Kashani, Richard Yu and Alex Lee (Mane). The difference is the brief. Instead of “a fresh floral”, each perfumer is handed a single tea, its region and its ritual, and asked to make it wearable. The result is the most literal tea perfumery available anywhere, and almost none of it is sold outside China.

What is Chasense?
Chasense (茶香师) is a niche perfume house from Shanghai, founded around the idea of capturing individual teas in scent: Longjing, Tieguanyin, jasmine tea, matcha, pu-erh and more. The fragrances are composed by perfumers from Firmenich, Givaudan and Mane.
Which Chasense should I try first?
Comforting Oolong if you like warm, slightly sweet scents; Spring Tea or Jasmine Green Tea if you prefer fresh and green; Chinese Milk Tea if you want a gourmand. All three are available as 2 ml samples.
Do they actually smell like tea?
More than any other house we know. Spring Tea smells like wet Longjing leaves, Jasmine Green Tea like a tea house in the morning, Tieguanyin like a roasted oolong with its orchid note. They are built as tea first, perfume second.
How long does Chasense last on skin?
A working day for most of the range. The green teas sit close to the skin after the first hour; the black and dark teas (Russian Caravan, Milk Tea, Broken Silver) last longest and project more.
