Roasted Green Tea is J-Scent’s W01 and the reason most people find the house: toasty, nutty hojicha with coconut, peanut, jasmine and a creamy vanilla finish. A hojicha latte you can wear. Our best seller of the four.
Paper Soap is the folded sheet of Japanese paper soap that lathers into airy foam: crisp aldehydes, lavender, rose and soft musk. Clean in a way that feels nostalgic rather than functional.
Ramune is the marble-sealed Japanese soda in scent form: fizzy lemon squash, two kinds of mint, a white-floral heart. Summer festival in a bottle.
Yawahada means “soft skin”, the Kawabata novel and the Japanese ideal: juicy pear, warm milk and rice powder over musk and sandalwood. Powdery, intimate, worn close.

Who makes it
J-Scent comes from LUZ, a Tokyo perfume house that has blended and bottled its own fragrance in-house since 1998. In 2017 founder Tetsu Amada and his team asked what everyday Japan smells like, and built the J-Scent line as photorealistic snapshots: tea, soap, soda, skin. Everything is made by Team LUZ in Japan, perfumers and evaluators side by side, which is why nothing in the range smells outsourced or generic.
How they wear
Deliberately soft. These are not perfumes that announce you from across the room; they sit close, hum quietly and make people lean in. Each is a 50 ml eau de parfum at $109. Items marked “special order” are brought in for you from Japan and take a little longer; everything else ships from Sydney within two business days, $8 Standard or $11 Express.
