Dry leather, black tea, birch smoke — the scent of a well-worn saddle in a wood-panelled study.
Sellier opens on a velvety bed of cashmeran and the tannic bite of black tea — warm, aromatic, and immediately distinguished. The heart is rugged, unsweetened leather paired with dried tobacco leaf, evoking an equestrian heritage without ever feeling costumed. Birch and oakmoss in the base add a smoky, earthy finish reminiscent of a birch-tar campfire. It projects with quiet intensity — confident but never loud.
Jérôme Epinette’s 2019 Night Veils extrait has drawn inevitable comparisons to Le Labo Santal 33, sharing a cashmeran-woody-leather structure — but Sellier is darker, smokier, and less creamy. In 2025, Byredo discontinued this original formulation, replacing it with the reformulated “Cuir Sellier” in a new 70ml bottle. This 50ml old edition is the original expression.
For the wearer who appreciates a leather fragrance with restraint and refinement. Not a versatile daily driver — this is evening, autumn, and occasions that call for substance over show. If Santal 33 felt too ubiquitous, Sellier offers a rarer, smokier path.
100% authentic. Discontinued old edition — factory-sealed. Replaced by Cuir Sellier in 2025.
