The Scent
I wore this to a gallery opening and a stranger asked if I was someone important. That’s Reine de Nuit. Blackcurrant and saffron open with the Night Veils signature — warm, luxurious, slightly exotic. The heart is velvety midnight rose wrapped in cool, resinous frankincense, the kind of scent that makes you stand a little straighter without knowing why. Ambrette seed in the base lends a vegetal muskiness that feels skin-like and sophisticated, while patchouli and black amber anchor everything in earthy depth.
The Collection + Performance
Launched in 2015 as one of the three original Night Veils extraits, Jérôme Epinette established the collection’s identity with this composition: blackcurrant, saffron, rose, frankincense, ambrette seed, patchouli, black amber. This 50ml is the discontinued old edition — the fragrance that started Byredo’s nocturnal chapter.
